The best way to make someone feel loved is to put as much effort as you can.
Dating someone exclusively for the first time is all new to me. I’ve dated guys but none of them were really worth bragging about so it was actually my first time introducing someone to them formally. When his birthday month struck, I just knew I had to do even better than what he did for me in my birthday just because I know he deserved better.
Surprise 1: The box

I gave him a box with 13 chocolates (1 chocolate per day til his birthday) with strips of paper underneath. The strips of paper were from my diary from the first day he flirted with me til the day I realized we were already super official!!! #perky
Surprise 2: Balloon boy
I secretly gave his brother a bunch of balloons so that he’d see one each day to prepare him for his 20th birthday on the 12th of December. On December 1, he woke up and saw a balloon hanging on his bed.
The rest of the balloons didn’t push through because he found out about it. #fail but still it was the thought that really counted #nobola
Surprise 3: Floating lanterns
I got him 20 (since he’s 20 years old!) lanterns that his friends and I lit up one by one.
I bought mine in Teeny in Fairview Center Mall (FCM) You can contact the owner at 09228990903 (sun) 09178999938 (globe) but they also deliver in Malabon. Php 100.00/ sky lantern but when bought in bulks of 20 price goes down to 50 pesos.
Tip! Each lantern has a square candle that has to be lit entirely. Wait til the lanterns bloat completely before releasing. Each lantern has to be lit by at least 2 people. It looks small but it’s too huge for one person!
Surprise 4: Birthday video
I made him a video of his different set of friends greeting him. From his high school friends to his college buddies. I also dug deep and found his old pictures and videos that I included to make things more sweet and personal.
Tip! Ask your common friends to take videos for you so you wont get caught taking them yourselves and so you wont have to make up a lie just to get rid of him.
Surprise 5: Cake
This was a major fail. My friends and I bought a cake for him at Mom and Tina’s Bakery Cafe. Anyway, it was a fail because when his little brother and I went to their kitchen to get the cake, the maids told us that it’s on the food table already. They served it without us knowing!
But he still loved it. (I think? haha)
Tip! Try their toblerone cake!!! If I remember it right they sell it at Php 1200
Surprise 6: Go Karting
Studying in Taft did have its perks. It was close to Boomland where it only cost 500 pesos each kart. Roby and I have always wanted to try it out so it was just perfect to treat him that day for an afternoon ride. It was just the two of us in the race track. It felt so exclusive haha probably because it was a Monday afternoon and was finals week lol We had separate single seat go karts so thanks to Boomland, I’m better at “driving” now.
Boomland formerly known as Boom na Boom is located next to Star City
Tip! Wear long sleeves because the heat will just kill you. You can either stick to what you’re wearing or get in a jump suit. Bleh!
Surprise 7: Vikings
For japanese food lovers like us, we just knew that buffet was the only way to go. We’ve heard nothing but great reviews about Vikings and hearing about the unli beer and drinks (unlike Sambokojin or Yakimix) just made it an even more smart choice. From personalized pasta to oysters. Vikings’ variety in food was phenomenal. Too bad we were both too full to try them all.
Unlimited supply of dead fish! #nomnom
Tip! Visit the official site and get reservations days before to avoid waiting in long lines. For those who can no longer get reservations, go to Vikings few hours before lunch or dinner and get signed under the Walk in list.
